The Fleeting Nature of Time: Gary Armer Solo Exhibition
Lei Xiang Gallery
Taipei, Taiwan
2025
Lei Xiang Gallery are honoured to present The Fleeting Nature of Time – British artist Gary Armer’s first solo exhibition in Asia.
Armer’s paintings explore the delicate boundaries between passion and attachment, fascination and obsession. His work delves into objects of the past, touching on themes such as nostalgia, history and the double-sidedness of humanity.
He is fascinated by how people build attachments, find solace and satisfaction based on their own experiences and circumstances. Armer’s delicate oil paintings can be seen as still life paintings of the consumer era, tempting the viewer to immerse in the complex shapes, bright colours and delicate depth presented in each unique piece of art.
Armer’s obsession with form and depth drives him to create subtle paintings that explore issues such as mass production, consumerism, the commercialisation of trends, and the commercialisation of emotions. He is particularly interested in the reasons why people are attracted to certain objects throughout their lives, the process of choosing to retain or give up, and the role these objects play in mental development.
Armer recognises the meaning of desire and acquisition for certain items of personal value, and that each person has their own mechanism to judge what is important to them. The tendency to crave is universal, but the unique difference in each person’s preferences is what makes the human personality distinct.
