Thomas VanDyke Gallery is very pleased to present Heroes and Chaos, an exhibiton of paintings by Gary Armer that examine objects from the past, touching on themes of nostalgia, history, and the duality of human nature. Armer is fascinated with the attachment people build out of their experiences and surroundings, and by what brings them comfort and satisfaction. He explores the fine line between passion and obsession, enchantment and preoccupation.

Armer depicts stories of the quixotic quest for completeness while evoking memories and emotional attachment, exploring issues of mass production, consumerism, the commoditisation of trends, and the capitalisation of sentimentality.
